Slang

An interesting word that carries perhaps a negative connotation and usually parents do not want their children speaking in this way. It is defined as an: ‘informal language consisting of words and expressions that are not considered appropriate for formal occasions’ (wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn).

But should we decide on what type of language is acceptable and what type is not? What are the benefits of speaking ‘correctly’? What determines ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ language?  Do you speak Arabic slang or dialect (so not Fushaa or Modern Standard Arabic) are you confused when you go to learn Classical Arabic?

Many Arabs think that they can express themselves better in slang and not in Classical Arabic (CA) there is now a move to write down these dialects is that good or will it weaken CA? Let’s discuss !
